The “Art for Peace” Project, carried out at the Piarist schools in Bamendjou, Bandjoun, Bamenda, and Yaoundé, Cameroon, with the support of the City Council of Jaca, has come to a close with an exhibition of works created by the students at these schools.
The community of Tchoum, in Bamendjou (Cameroon), is already seeing some of the results of the Itaka-Escolapios project.
Against a backdrop of social tensions and the fallout from the Anglophone crisis, the ‘Art for Peace’ project uses artistic expression as a means of promoting dialogue, tolerance, creativity and peaceful coexistence within educational communities.
The City Council of Jaca is financing the Itaka-Escolapios project in Cameroon which, under the title “Art for Peace: a collaborative pilot project to improve educational quality, promote dialogue, and build peace,” seeks to combat poverty and promote local human development.
The project “Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene for the Girls and Boys of the Tchoum Primary School in Bamendjou,” in Cameroon, has been funded by the City Council of Tafalla with 15,000 euros.
The Basque Agency for Cooperation and Solidarity has awarded Itaka-Escolapios more than €125,000 for the project “Building Peace Together, from the Blackboard to the Community: A Path to Conflict Prevention in Cameroon.”
