The presence of the Pious Schools in Mozambique dates back to November 2016. It was then that the first Piarist religious arrived in the diocese of Pemba, in missionary response to the call of the local church. The Piarist presence is located in the north of the country, in the Cabo Delgado province, near the border with Tanzania. There, about two hours by road from the capital Pemba, the Piarist mission serves from the parish of São Luiz Maria Grignon de Monfort to 30 communities in the areas of Minheuene, Meza and Mariri. The parish also has the Beata Maria da Paixão kindergarten, which is also run by the Piarists.
The Piarist mission in Mozambique is, therefore, still young and reduced, but it has great possibilities to grow, in order to respond to the existing educational, social and pastoral needs. To this end, Itaka-Piarists are committed to this mission from the beginning, accompanying and encouraging the development of current and future projects of the Piarist Schools in Mozambique.
