Closest communities to the Cocapata school are located 5 hours away. In many cases, several rivers and mountain peaks over 4,000 meters high must be crossed to reach it. This makes the need of a boarding school more than evident. After the demand of family parents, the boarding school was opened in 2005. It can hold up to 160 boarders, most of which find here their only chance to study.
The main selection criterion to attend the boarding school is vulnerability, as these are families with serious financial difficulties and low educational level.
