The headquarters of Itaka- Escolapios in Valencia was established in 2006, integrating the work of the association Trastévere- VES (Voluntariado Escolapio Social) which, since 1993, worked as an entity of mediation and training of volunteers with other entities that were already working with children and adolescents in vulnerable situations in the city.
Since then, direct action projects have been developed in Valencia with children and youth, volunteering, awareness and education for social transformation and international cooperation, such as the Escola Oberta project, or the monitoring and coordination for several years of the mission of the Pious Schools in Central America and the Caribbean, Indonesia...
In relation to the projects of social transformation, in 1994 the project REC (Repaso Escolar Carniceros) arises with a small first punctual experience, but it is not until 2003 when the school requests our help and our intervention is consolidated carrying out a school support outside school hours with boys and girls with learning difficulties who were in a situation or risk of social exclusion.

In relation to the projects of social transformation, in 1994 the project REC (Repaso Escolar Carniceros) arose with a small first experience, but it was not until 2003 when the school requested our help and our intervention was consolidated, providing school support outside school hours to children with learning difficulties who were in a situation or at risk of social exclusion. Later on, the project REM (Repaso Escolar Malvarrosa) will emerge, with the same objectives in this maritime neighborhood, later renamed Proyecto Llum (for a while, Mare) and expanding, little by little, its activity and offer in the neighborhood and in the school Escuelas Pías Malvarrosa.
A few years later, the association Amaltea, an entity with more than 25 years of experience in the neighborhood of Velluters, and which works with children and youth at risk of social exclusion, was integrated into Itaka-Escolapios. This union will give rise to the Amaltea socio-educational center (which will also include the work of the REC) and the Akeloo center for social and labor insertion.
The last direct action project in Valencia is Saó, in the neighborhood of Patraix, after detecting the needs of socio-educational care for children in the area.

In all of them, volunteering is a fundamental part, collaborating in the action with the children and contributing their grain of sand from responsibility, with the aim of making education the engine of social change. The summer work camp with young people of about 18 years of age reflects the first steps of many of them in volunteering, which in many cases are linked for years to projects and teams of the headquarters and the network.
In addition, Valencia participates in the mission and life project Sal de tu tierra, as well as in the solidarity and development education campaigns carried out by the Itaka- Escolapios network, organizing actions that last over time, such as Magia en Familia or Itaka se Mueve (Magic in Family or Itaka Moves).
