Last weekend, 22 senior secondary students from Valencia and Gandía gathered together at the Piarist School of Malvarrosa (Valencia) to attend a short course promoting social volunteering work. For two days the teenagers were invited to leave behind the navel-gazing attitude typical in our society, and to take a closer look at the reality.
On Saturday they were shown different examples regarding social inequality and they were encouraged to analyze the causes of poverty and social exclusion. They also reflected on social differences in both other countries and Spain. Through various videos, games and short talks the need of volunteer work was presented as an answer to those unjust situations.
The aim of the Sunday session was to better define the qualities and goals of a volunteer person, specifically a volunteer who belongs to the Piarist School and to Itaka-Escolapios. During the last talk of the course they were offered a summer experience as volunteers.
