Theme “MY FAMILY NEAR CHRIST IN A MULTIMEDIA WORLD”
Celebrating Easter with the children and youths in the piarist presence in Yaounde was centered on the theme “MY FAMILY NEAR CHRIST IN A MULTIMEDIA WORLD”. Preparation of the activities was from 10 January to 12 April 2022 and the activities took from 14 to 16 April 2022 both at Cité Verte Parish (Yaoundé) and at the Piarist Scholasticate in Yaounde. The celebration brought 132 children aged 7 to 12 and 86 youths aged 13 to 40 from in and out of the piarist parish of Cite Vérte.
Christian life is based on the ministry, death and resurrection of Christ. The “Pascal Triduum” (which was celebrated this year from 14 to 16 April) summarizes these mysteries of Christ and allows the children and youth to grow in their faith. However, the Christian lives in a society with all its advantages and deviances. Indeed, today, young people are increasingly influenced negatively by social networks. On social media, the Cameroonian youth is exposed to cybercrimes, sexual immorality, peer pressures, violence, and ungodly spiritualties. Time for studies, prayer and work has been replaced by social media. Similarly, the influence of these social networks has an impact on the quality of family life. Hence the importance of a good education. This the fundamental problem that was handled during this celebration with the children and youth was centered on the question; how can the family remain attach to Christ in the age of social networks?
The general objective was to help young Christians to live their family life without being negatively influenced by social networks. This broad objective implies strengthening and renewing Their relationship with Christ Jesus, enhancing Positive use of social networks, and strengthening their relationship with their family and society.
As regards the methodology, for the children, we used projections, drama, songs, group work and stories to get the message across and this will allow the children to discover for themselves. Meanwhile the work with young people was based on the MILLI (Media and Information Literacy Learning Initiative) approach from Namibia as it was both theoretical and practical. The facilitators used themed games, tutorials and plenary presentations to get participants to think for themselves on a variety of topics.
Christ was the center of all the activities. The children and youth had daily adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, commemorated the passion of Christ on Good Friday, had daily meditation, prayed the liturgy of the hours, purified Their souls through the sacrament of confession and were enlightened through spiritual accompaniment and talks.
The Piarist Fathers of Yaounde under the coordination of their Rector (Rev. Fr. Paulinus Abose Sch. P) and with the help of some benefactors were able to offer a T-shirt with the theme and some embroidered photos to each participant, provide food on daily basis, prepare prayer cards, and provided resource persons for the conference.
At the end of the celebration, participants and their parents expressed gratitude to God for the presence of the Piarists in Yaounde, and shared testimonies on how enlightened they have been to remain routed in Christ in spite of the multiple deviations that social medial presents today.
