From the Itaka-Escolapios Network we express our solidarity with the people affected by the catastrophe of the devastating earthquake that has taken place this week in Turkey and Syria, a region that has already been suffering serious humanitarian problems for several years. We believe that we must appeal to the international community to ensure that a sustained response and care can be provided beyond the first moments of the emergency.
We would also like to encourage a culture of solidarity and commitment to all those who are suffering. The Pious Schools do not have a presence in the affected region, so we encourage the channelling of aid through entities working on the ground, such as Church entities adhering to Networks working on the ground or other organisations of the Coordinating Committee of Organisations for the Development of Spain, among many other organisations present.
As it is already known, Itaka-Escolapios has a long trajectory attending children, young people and their families who are living humanitarian disasters in those places where we are present, most of them forgotten war conflicts that do not have presence in the media. Regular donations and part of the proceeds of recent solidarity campaigns that support and sustain the Piarist mission in general, allow us to improve and expand our humanitarian responses in different parts of the world.
