Yesterday we held an international meeting with all the volunteers of Itaka Escolapios as part of the celebration of our volunteer day. More than 60 people connected online to share experiences, feelings and enjoy knowing that we are working in a network in search of a better world.
We share with you some of the resources that we worked on yesterday, it was a transforming, beautiful, enriching meeting…. Thanks to all the people who make Itaka Escolapios possible.
Final words of Igor Irigoyen, general coordinator of the Itaka-Escolapios Network volunteer meeting (9/3/2023).
To end this meeting, the first thing I want to express is my emotion and gratitude for the opportunity to have participated and for everything we have seen, heard and shared.
Today is the 9th of March. Itaka-Escolapios was born as an entity on March 9, 2001, so it is 22 years since our Network was born. Although certainly, life began much earlier, thanks to all the previous history and the Piarist mission in different places, a mission that has then grown and multiplied.
But today is something like the birthday of Itaka-Escolapios. And birthdays are dates in which, normally, we remember and have especially what we find most valuable in our life. In the case of Itaka-Escolapios, celebrating the birthday with a meeting of the volunteers already speaks of the value of volunteering for our network: it is the heart, those people without whom we do not understand Itaka-Escolapios.
Today’s meeting was a precious opportunity to experience this. We have heard the voices of volunteers from Granada, Barquisimeto, Puebla, Seville, Kinshasa, Vitoria, Bamenda, Mexico City, Libreville, Valencia, Yaounde…. and others that I may have left out. From such distant and different places we have felt everything we have in common and the great adventure we are sharing.
We thank God for this opportunity and for the sisters and brothers who have shared their experiences with us today, as well as all the people who are with them on a daily basis in their voluntary work.
Special thanks also to the people of the volunteer team of the Network who have worked on the preparation, as well as to those who have offered to facilitate the communication. Truly, volunteering continues to open doors for us in Itaka-Escolapios.
We keep on walking, because we have a beautiful road ahead of us. Merci, thany you, thank you!
