The Aluche 2023 Work Camp, which took place between 1 and 15 July, was attended by 14 volunteers from different presences in our province: Coruña, Monforte, Calasancio de Madrid, Albacete and Carniceros de Valencia.

Accompanied by seven coordinators, volunteers of Itaka, these young people have been able to live such a Piarist experience as the dedication to the smallest of our society, in the entities of the Urban Camp of Aluche and the Pinardi Foundation in Pan Bendito. Hopefully in the coming years we can continue to have young people who want to discover ‘the best way to serve’.

We share brief testimonies of what this experience has meant:

‘Personally, it has marked me to see how simple it is to have fun for the youngest children. Playing and being with them has been the best part of this experience’.

Nacho, Calasancio volunteer in Pan Bendito.

‘It has been 15 days that I will remember forever. I have taken away moments, great friendships and names and stories in my heart. Not only that, but it has also meant a great personal growth for me. It has given me back the desire to transform the world, the hope and the courage to open up and give myself to others. I received it for free and I will give it for free. It has also brought me closer to God, through prayer and children, which I needed so much. I have learnt a lot from them and their lives in a very short time and they have become part of the person I love and am becoming’.

Eva, volunteer from Albacete in the Aluche Urban Camp.

‘For me, the Work Camp was a very enriching and moving experience in equal parts. It has given me the opportunity to change my outlook and to open my heart by putting the gifts that the Father has given me at the service of the little ones. Moreover, the trainings helped me to learn, to strengthen myself and to deepen my personal growth. Without a doubt, for me it meant a change in my way of seeing different realities, even those I didn’t know, to return to my own with the aim of being part of the solution’.

Ainhoa, volunteer of Monforte in the Urban Camp of Aluche.
