Manos Unidas has awarded a grant of 60,642 euros to the project “Strengthening the Resilience of the Educational Community at the Guanabacoa Center, Cuba,” led by the Piarists and Itaka-Escolapios in Havana.

The project will be carried out in the municipality of Guanabacoa, where the Calasanz Cultural Center supports vulnerable children, adolescents, and families through educational activities, care services, and community support.

The initiative will strengthen child care services, improve and expand the daycare center with a new classroom, enhance the school cafeteria, and promote support networks and mutual aid among families in the community. Additionally, the project includes a solar power component that will help ensure the center’s operations in a context marked by frequent power outages and energy shortages in Cuba.

In total, the project will directly benefit 375 people and indirectly benefit more than 1,100. This support represents a significant boost to further strengthening the Piarist presence and the socio-educational work of Itaka-Escolapios in Cuba, especially in a context of great economic and social hardship for many families.

At Itaka-Escolapios, we deeply appreciate Manos Unidas’ trust and commitment to the educational and transformative mission we are carrying out alongside the Piarist community in Guanabacoa.
