Raising Awareness About the DR Congo in Pamplona

03-11-2026

Last week, the Eki Foundation and Itaka-Escolapios gave two awareness-raising talks at Calasancio School in Pamplona.

As part of the project “Saint Joseph de Calasanz-Manenga: An Educational Center Committed to Sustainability and Environmental Education,” which is being carried out in the DR Congo, these sessions were aimed at 11th- and 12th-grade students, focusing on sustainable energy globally, in Africa, and specifically in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, before delving deeper into the importance of governance and energy sustainability for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The project, funded by the Government of Navarre, aims to strengthen the educational system at the Manenga school in Kinshasa by providing access to clean energy and environmental education, thereby improving development opportunities for students and their families.

To this end, a solar panel system has been installed to save on energy costs, reduce the school’s environmental impact, and conduct awareness raising about solar energy within the educational community; furthermore, the electrical engineering track at the technical high school has been expanded to include a module on the installation and maintenance of solar panels.

In addition, the project includes awareness-raising sessions in Pamplona as well, with the goal of highlighting the importance of sustainable energy and its impact on improving people’s lives around the world—and specifically in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
