Satisfaction with the good performance of de rainwater harvesting system at the school in Manenga (Kinshasa)

29-06-2025

We have received news from the Saint Joseph de Calasanz school complex. Located in the Manenga neighborhood, in the commune of Ngaliema, west of Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, this recently built center has implemented a rainwater harvesting system to manage stormwater, ensure sustainable drainage, and provide drinking water during the rainy months—resulting in savings in both water and energy consumption.

The system, built next to the school, consists of a surface and rooftop rainwater collection system. It is connected to an underground concrete storage tank capable of holding up to 15,000 liters of water.

The tank is equipped with a pump and a tower, supported by a PVC system, to supply internal and external pipes. The stored water is reused for:
‐Plant irrigation
‐Toilet flushing
‐Various cleaning services in the building facilities

The construction of this rainwater harvesting system was funded by the Provincial Council of Huesca, which contributed €8,458.13 through its 2024 grant program for financing development cooperation projects.
