The “Building Peace Together” project in Cameroon, funded by the Basque Agency for Cooperation
The Basque Agency for Cooperation and Solidarity has awarded Itaka-Escolapios more than €125,000 for the project “Building Peace Together, from the Blackboard to the Community: A Path to Conflict Prevention in Cameroon.”
For nine years, Cameroon has been embroiled in an “invisible” civil conflict that has already caused at least 6,000 deaths and the displacement of 700,000 people.
This project, which will run from January 2026 to December 2027 in the Cameroonian towns of Bamenda, Bamendjoun, Badnjoun, Bafia, Douala, Kumba, and Yaoundé, aims to help teachers and families from 25 schools, as well as the entire civilian community, become architects of dialogue and peacebuilding in Cameroon.
To this end, actions have been planned at both the local and national levels, including awareness-raising sessions in schools and the formation of peace committees, the implementation of referral mechanisms for mental health care for children, an interfaith meeting to promote dialogue and peace, and a communication and political advocacy campaign in favor of peace.
