Immersive learning: An effective approach at Saint Joseph Calasanz School Complex

13-02-2026

First-grade primary students at Complejo Escolar San José Calasanz in Kinshasa (Democratic Republic of the Congo) combined theory with practice through two meaningful immersive learning experiences.

The first focused on discovering and tasting different fruits. Each student was able to feel and understand what distinguishes one group of fruits from another. A fruit salad prepared by the students themselves and their teachers made this learning moment even more memorable and useful.

The second experience involved immersing students in the world of plant reproduction studied in class. Students learned that plants reproduce in several ways: by cuttings (cassava leaves), by shoots (banana tree), by seeds (orange or papaya), and by pits (avocado).

Each learner also took part in planting each type of plant, which they will watch grow before their eyes. Learning through immersion is now an effective approach in our school for life.
