24-03-2026

As part of community initiatives to promote rural women, Itaka Kikonka, through its group of volunteer doctors and nurses, organized a medical awareness and consultation day on Saturday, March 7, 2026, on the occasion of International Women’s Day, for the benefit of the women of Kimayala.

The group of volunteers, gathered under the shade of trees in the chapel courtyard, first held a health awareness session addressing several public health issues, including cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). The speakers explained risk factors, warning signs, and preventive measures, emphasizing the importance of early screening and adopting healthy lifestyles. A practical demonstration on the use of sanitary pads was also conducted to raise awareness among girls and women about menstrual hygiene and reproductive health.

This phase was followed by medical consultations, allowing beneficiaries to receive medical advice and personalized guidance. This activity is part of the mission of Itaka’s volunteers, who work on health education through a community-based approach that promotes a culture of prevention and solidarity.
