The City Council of Jaca is financing the Itaka-Escolapios project in Cameroon which, under the title “Art for Peace: a collaborative pilot project to improve educational quality, promote dialogue, and build peace,” seeks to combat poverty and promote local human development.

The aim is to guarantee ideal conditions for access to education and improve educational quality by including art as an educational and training component that breaks down barriers and contributes to the process of building bridges for dialogue, pacification, and social reconciliation in Cameroon. Through a process of empowerment, using art, students, teachers, families, and communities will be encouraged to take an active role in building bridges and proposals for peace in the country.

Specifically, an initiative will be launched that will seek to develop, in a participatory manner, a competition in four primary and secondary schools in three regions, two of which are located in conflict zones or areas with displaced populations as a result of the conflict. This competition will promote the use of the arts as a tool for peacebuilding, both within the school environment and in society at large.

The project will target more than 3,000 children and teachers, as well as their families and people from the communities in which they live.
