LEAVE Your Homeland and You Will Find LIFE: Second-Year Meeting of the SAL Project

Last weekend, the second in-person meeting of the SAL project for the Bethany and Emmaus provinces took place at the Santa Teresa House in Zaragoza.

It was a special occasion where volunteers, along with their chaperones, were able to share their experiences from this past summer at their host destinations: Bolivia, Mexico, Guatemala, Peru, and Venezuela. For several weeks, 15 young people lived together in community and were sent out to the Piarist missions in each location.

We do not yet know if they left a piece of their hearts there, or if, on the contrary, those who welcomed them “flew back with them,” but it has undoubtedly been an experience they will never forget—one that they must now reflect on deeply to “reorient” their lives in light of what they’ve experienced. They still have time ahead of them to let it all “simmer on low heat.”
