APS, continuing professional development: From Kinshasa to Kikonka
The ApS team from the Saint Joseph School Complex in Kinshasa undertook a trip to Kikonka, in the province of Central Congo (around 120 km from Kinshasa). The aim of the trip was to bring the educational community in Kikonka closer to a shared Learning and Service (ApS) curriculum.
During their stay in Kikonka, several activities were carried out at the Saint Joseph Calasanz School Complex; on the one hand, an awareness-raising campaign and collection of plastic bottles took place at the school and in some neighbourhoods of Kikonka, with the aim of raising awareness among families about the impact of human activity on life and the environment; on the other hand, to explain to the local community the dangers associated with the misuse of plastic waste and to teach our pupils and teachers the values of service through cleaning the neighbourhood’s streets and drains.
Following the awareness campaign and the collection of plastic bottles, the APS team moved on to the phase of manufacturing plastic bins. This first APS initiative at the Saint Joseph Calasanz School Complex in Kikonka with the pupils was of great importance, as it has raised awareness within the school community.
