Akeloo Project

Located in the neighborhood of Velluters and serving adolescents and young people in the city of Valencia, Akeloo carries out the integral promotion of minors and young people who are at risk of social exclusion and their families through programs of social and labor insertion, and intervention in areas of personal, contextual, family and educational development.
This project, like Amaltea, has a long history in the neighborhood, developing a socio-educational work since 1989, focusing on young people from 14 years old onwards.
As a preventive resource, it focuses on the changing needs of young people in a situation of social vulnerability who come to the center, seeking to address them and providing a response within the socio-familial environment from which they come. Thus, the Akeloo Day Center aims to be a resource of mediation between young people, their families and institutions, developing a collaborative work between all institutional agents with which the minor is related.
Also, as an educational and social and labor resource, it develops a socio-educational and family support service, leisure and free time, occupational and rehabilitative, school support in order to promote their normalization process and their personal autonomy and social integration.
Programs carried out:

  • SHARED SCHOOL PROGRAM (PAC), adolescents from 14 to 16 years old with difficulties in adapting to the school environment and the educational environment. Objective: to remain in the educational system, recover habits and start a training-labor itinerary.
  • WORKSHOPS FOR IMPROVING EMPLOYABILITY + KEY SKILLS, young people from 16 to 23 years old who are unemployed, with difficulties in accessing training and pre-employment resources or who left formal education without obtaining the School Certificate. Objective: to recover habits and resume theoretical and practical training for their early incorporation into the labor market.
  • SUCCESS IN EDUCATION PROGRAM, adolescents and young people from 15 to 23 years of age who have decided to continue their education in vocational training degrees. Objective: school success through permanence in the classroom, study techniques and support in the socio-family context.
  • INSERTION FOLLOW-UP, young people aged 15-25 with difficulties in accessing the labor market or with interest in returning to training. Objective: accompaniment in the transition to professional certificates and in the active search for employment.
  • THERAPEUTIC CARE, the psychological assistance program is based on the need to accompany young people in a double personal development. The one related to a good social, work and family integration. And the one linked to the development of self-management.
  • FAMILY ACCOMPANIMENT PROGRAM. Within the integral attention to minors, the participation of the family in the educational process is fundamental, so it is essential to work with the family as an integrating agent. In addition, we offer the possibility of supporting other problems that go beyond the minor's own situation: housing, employment, health, etc.
  • ESPAI OBERT. We find ourselves with a new way of relating with the public administration in which the use of new technologies mediates any communication (previous appointments, telematic applications, etc.). Also in the search for employment, the use of the Internet is essential. On the other hand, another reality that crosses our day to day in the project is that young people or families who no longer have a daily link with the project, but are our reference, continue to knock on our door for specific procedures and advice. For this reason, we offer a space in which to use computers with internet and fixed and mobile telephone line, and a personalized attention by a professional.
