The Llum Project’s Urban Camp Is Back
The Llum urban camp continues, and the group of middle school boys and girls are now taking center stage, because over the next few weeks they’ll be in charge of documenting everything that happens in Malvarrosa: from taking and editing photos to recording videos and even conducting interviews.
The goal is to gather information, but above all, to get to know each other better and strengthen the bonds among all participants, educators, and volunteers—a total of 37 people eager to have fun and take part in activities as inspiring as this one.
Here’s the first camp report, written by the kids themselves!
Last Monday, the LLUM urban camp began, with children and students aged 6–7 to 14 participating. The day was divided into a wide variety of games and activities, where the volunteers and children began to get to know one another.
They played various icebreaker games, including musical chairs, the handkerchief game (where the children also got to cool off), and Chinese whispers. All of these activities tied into the camp’s central theme, TOY STORY. Yesterday, the kids had to solve a scavenger hunt that led them to the first clue about the toys’ disappearance.
This scenario was based mainly on the disappearance of Buzz Lightyear and Jessie, and it’s up to the rest of the toys to find them. Between lunch and snack time, the children really enjoyed their free time, using it to get to know one another. All of this took place with the counselors constantly spraying them with water to keep them cool and comfortable during the games in the playground.
On this first day, there was time for everything, from the initial fun to time set aside for homework or various projects. One of the older students involved in the project, Zayneb, describes it this way: “It was really cool and fun; I liked it a lot.” The younger children spent their time reviewing different subjects, from language arts to math.
To sum it up, it was a day full of fun, meeting new faces, and even reunions—and above all, making many, many friends.
