Sarafellini: A Shared Mission That Crosses Borders
María Alfonso and Miguel Todolí are already in Puebla, Mexico, where they will participate in a volunteer experience as part of the Sarafellini Project, which is now getting underway. This project is part of our desire to continue sharing the Piarist mission beyond our borders.
The project takes its name from Ventura Sarafellini, a layperson who collaborated with St. Joseph Calasanz in the early days of the Pious Schools. His story reminds us of something very much our own: the Piarist mission has always grown thanks to many hands, vocations, and shared dedication.
Today, the Sarafellini Project aims to provide an opportunity for laypeople connected to the Pious Schools to collaborate, for a specific period of time, on Piarist projects, responding to the specific needs of each mission.
This summer, through Itaka-Escolapios Betania, the Sarafellini experience will take place at Hogares Calasanz in Puebla, Mexico. Miguel Todolí and María Alfonso, volunteers from Itaka-Escolapios in Valencia, will be there. Miguel is a nurse and has completed the MTL course; María is a social educator and an elementary school teacher at the Real Colegio de las Escuelas Pías in Valencia.
At Hogares Calasanz, they will share daily life, summer activities, camp, and opportunities for fellowship with children and young people.
Because educating, accompanying, and serving continue to be a concrete way to transform the world.
