The Piarist presence in Anzaldo began in 1992, with the takeover of the parish of St. James the Apostle. The population soon asked the priests to take over the general direction of the existing school, as part of the Church-State agreement. The school became the Colegio San José de Calasanz, which provided primary and secondary education. Many of the students lived far away and, faced with this situation, the Piarists created the Malaga Boarding School to accommodate these students from Sunday to Friday, offering educational support and comprehensive care. Now the mission is completed with the Calasanz Movement. Currently, and practically since its creation, the Piarist community is formed by religious and lay members of the Piarist fraternity.
The Piarist presence in Anzaldo is coordinated by a Piarist community that, since its origins, has been characterized for being formed by religious and lay people from different Piarist Fraternities. Anzaldo has always been a place of welcome for volunteers of our pastoral processes, both from Bolivia and other countries, always leaving an indelible mark in their lives.
At this moment, our mission is centered in the parishes of Apostle Santiago de Anzaldo and Sacabamba, with more than 120 dispersed rural communities; the San José de Calasanz Technical-Humanistic Educational Unit, with 600 students in kindergarten, primary and secondary school, the Malaga boarding school with 130 students and the Calasanz Movement.
